Carl’s Take:

Not being a strong genre for me, I am going to do my best to review this release from an artist’s point of view rather than as an expert in this style. I'll hopefully come across with the justice this release deserves.

The original mix of "Hey Hey Hey" got me moving, and that’s a great start. So with toes dancing to the beat, here we go.... The production is the first thing that strikes me as very well done. The structure is great, with sections dropping in and out, keeping my attention at all times but yet still allowing me to relax back into the mix. With all the essentials of a great track—bass, steady beat, and melodic riffs—this track has it all. The start and ending is perfect for DJing with beat only in and beat only out. There also is good use of the stereo spectrum. Everything is in its place, and nothing is grinding on the ears. So, all in all, this track is one to add to the list, especially as an opener to a set.

The remix by Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union comes in with a slightly harder kick but in the same style. The bass line is not so outstanding in this track at the start, but wait till the 2 minutes in. There, it is very nice. The use of the repetitive sythn bouncing from ear to ear is great; however, I found the synth cord a little grinding on me after a while. Although it’s a great attribute to the track, it made me feel stuck in the same spot of the track. Even though it was broken up by a crash at the 8th bar, it put me straight back into the same section where I just left. The production and representation of this remix compared to the original are good, but the original grabbed my attention more.
