Chris' Take:
Jackindabox are an amazing French group that I have heard of via some remixes they have done for other Queep releases. I love their sound and enjoy seeing them listed as a remixer. Now they have released their first single of 2008, according to Queep's web site. So, enough of the details already... let's get to the review!
The "Original Mix" starts off strong, setting the pace as a chunky, head-bobber kind of a track. You know, the kind that just gets you going within the first few bars of beats? Well this is one. The arpeggiated sythns and the bassline provide a playful and fun atmosphere. There are also some sung female lyrics that contribute to the tracks title. She has a really good voice, and the producers did a good job mixing her into the track.
Next up is the "A.C.K. & Simon Point Remix". This remix is okay. I feel that perhaps some more creativity could have gone into it. I like the bassline, but that's really about it. There are portions of the lyrics sprinkled throughout parts of the track as a reminder of what track is playing, otherwise it's a pretty generic-sounding track.
The last track is the "Washing MaJazzz Spirit Funk Remix", which grabs your interest right away. It's fun, tweaky, and sample crazy, has some old skool rave type hits thrown in the background, has a nice break beat section, etc... This is a proper remix. Loads of fun abound here. Dare I say, I love this remix! Wow... wow. This remix really keeps your attention for the entire duration because you never know what's coming next.
All of the above was in reference to the musical and entertainment aspect of the tracks. Now without trying to come off like a total curmudgeon, I need to give a warning about the track's lyrical content since I am reviewing this for us here at Tastyfresh. If the track was an instrumental, I'd say "yeah the title is a bit questionable, but the track itself is rockin', so play it with caution." However the track does have lyrics that are obviously "naughty" in nature (sans the "Washing MaJazzz Spirit Funk Remix" in which the words are unintelligible because of all the fun tweaking they did). As great as these tracks are musically and production, I can't give them a recommendation to any Christians who are looking to fill their music collection. Lyrically, this release lost a few points for me. If it had been an instrumental, it would have merited a higher score.
My hope is that Jackindabox's next single is lyrically uplifting or an instrumental because they are great producers. Simply great.
