Carl’s Take:
With a driving breaks drum, "Off the Top of My Head" is set to drop into most late morning sets. The bass is enough to mess with your head, and various sounds drop in and out, including toy machine guns and vox stabs. Is all this is this enough to make a top-line breaks track? Well, I’m not 100% sure, and I’ll tell you why: It loses me. There is too much change and not a stand-out driving bass line to flow the track. The drum track is good though, and it has had a lot of effort into it. I find the vocal stabs strange, and although they fit in tight, they don’t do a whole lot for the track. However, the effect sounds that drop in are good, and I like the variety that has been used, some resembling the Chemical Brothers.
Where can it be used? It is a track that I would expect to hear at 2am at a rave. So, if this is what you are after, then it is for you. Otherwise, if you’re looking to get the crowed jumping the house down, it might not be for you.
