Yup... Fifth time's the charm. This time we're back with two massive sets. The first is by former RadioU Electric Circus DJ Matt Risher and the second by Joel Armstrong of Ruhnsong Recordings. Both have been long time members and supporters of Tastyfresh.com and we're honored to have them on the show. Since we have your attention, we'll also plug the Cornerstone Music Festival again and I'll slip in yet another new remix that I've done: Cristian Paduraru's Born Again on Next Dimension Music.
May 2007
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Matthew Risher has always had music in his blood. It started with banging on canned goods in the grocery store and 'playing DJ' with his fisher price record player at a young age. During college, he was a part of a few bands, playing drums/percussion, keyboards and singing, most notably in the swing group "Big Al's Swing Kids". He also put a WGI bronze medal under his belt, as part of the 1998 Capital Regiment indoor drum corps.
After visiting Europe in 2000, he quickly became addicted to the sounds of electronic dance music, and began venturing into the realm of mixing records and producing tracks. His first single, titled "Can You Feel It?" under the nickname of apoq.79, hit the market in 2002. His ability to use sequencing software was natural, having messed around with mod software in the mid nineties.
Around that time, he also emerged into the DJ world by re-inventing RadioU's Electric Circus, turning the normal radio show into a two-hour live mix program that aired nationally and on the web. While holding a residency there under the name "DJ Rish", he saw success with two other releases: as the vocalist and lyric penman for Pacific Mile's "Devotion", and remixer for Prophetica's "Never Gonna".
He has also developed quite a name for himself as a mix DJ. Among many performances, he’s performed at Cornerstone Festival in 2004, and further headlining their Dance Club venue in 2005. He also spun at the first ever Clover Festival in 2006, and performed a world-famous tag-team mix with Andy Hunter live on the Electric Circus. Soon, however, Matthew's call would bring he and his family to Cincinnati Ohio. Electric Circus would soon be disbanded after his departure. In Cincinnati, he went under the radar for some time, while adjusting to the new call on his life.
He’s recently re-emerged into the DJ world with "Circumlocution", a mix-set featuring the music of Cristian Paduraru. 2007 is threatening to be a smashing year for Matthew, with rumors of collaborative productions and more mixsets coming.
Joel got into electronic music around ’95 listening to 2 Unlimited and Ace of Base and that wonderful CD, Dance Mix ’95!. His main influence has been his close friendship with Colin & Justin of Shiloh. Music on the progressive angle has been his passion for a number of years now, much of it tinged with a bit of an Asian feel, credited to the 15 years he spent growing up in Indonesia. His popularity as a producer skyrocketed when his music was featured in Shiloh’s monthly show on Proton Radio.
With more than 35 releases from 11 different labels currently on Beatport.com, Joel has become a force in the EDM scene to be reckoned with. He also works with fellow producer Micah as A&R for their label Ruhnsong Recordings.
