You might have noticed the absence of our monthly podcasts since the last Afterhours performance was posted. Needless to say, the lives of our podcast hosts have been extremely busy lately. In fact, this is promoting some changes.

Tastyfresh Presents

The first, biggest and most immediate change is to Tastyfresh Presents. Presents was the first podcast here at Tastyfresh.com. In fact, originally the show was hosted by the now defunct BTU Live crew from Birmingham, Al as BTU Live Presents… Tastyfresh. After BTU Live bit the dust, the show was moved to Tastyfresh.com proper and renamed.  The hosts over the years have included myself, Kevin Oneel and lastly Uncovered’s Chris Harrington.  And over the years, we’ve had plenty of amazing guest mixes on the program including Andy Hunter, Joel Armstong, Tim Richards, Kyle Geiger and more.

One of the main efforts in the show is connecting with these artists and obtaining an original mix from them. Some artists are easier to get fresh material from than others. I personally don’t like the idea of putting out a mix by a DJ that has also been featured on multiple podcasts and radio shows. And, this is where we are at right now. We have the dilemma of do we keep working with new DJs that we haven’t featured yet or do we constantly go back to the same ten or so that we always have done? Do we require original mixes or do we just accept whatever we can get?

More than anything, these are questions of quality. One thing we strive for here is quality. I don’t want to keep a show running for the sake of history if it means compromising on the quality of it. Because of this, Chris, Kevin, Jpuddy and I have decided that Presents has effectively run its course. With this realization, we are going to put the show to rest for a while. I am planning to do a few “specials” from time to time with it in the future however.  So as of this moment, Episode 39: DJ Dunamis is the final episode.

FreshBeats

I started FreshBeats as an alternative to doing reviews on this site. Over the past two years, I’ve enjoyed going through the promos each month and compiling a nice selection of things I believe are hot and deserve attention. There has only be a few problems with this. First, I’m always choosing things from the same labels. Since we have some great labels sending us promos, I actually don’t mind that, but I think it the show is suffering from a bit of stagnation. Second, I’m stagnating. I realized this summer that I am busy presenting tracks rather than presenting an experience.  To this end, I am going to finish out the year with Freshbeats starting this month, but next I will be re-branding and launch FreshBeats as something new and enjoyable for everyone.

HomeGrown

HomeGrown from day one has been an amazing show. Jpuddy has brought to light many talented djs from Tastyfresh.com and the surrounding community. From DJ Dunamis to Bill Sikes, I’m not sure there has been a single episode that was a dud. Jpuddy is going to keep the show going and will hopefully bring it to a new level in 2011. HomeGrown will also be back this month and finish out the year.

CircuitBreaker

Kevin Oneel’s CircuitBreaker podcast is one of the most anticipated podcasts on Tastyfresh.c om each month.  CircuitBreaker was originally supposed to be the breakbeat equivalent of FreshBeats, but it has evolved to so much more. With Kevin’s special brew of old, new, bootleg and abused, CircuitBreaker pushes in many ways the sound of Tastyfresh.com. CircuitBreaker will also be returning this month and finish out the year and continue on in 2011.

The Replacement

With Presents gone from the Tastyfresh .com roster, we are looking into a replacement. Right now I’m looking into a few genre-specific shows. Can’t tell you what’s up my sleeve at this point, but I have sent out a proposal to someone who I KNOW will put smiles on people’s faces. This new show will hopefully be up and running by the start of 2011. I’m really looking forward to this and I hope you are as well.

Well, that’s the update. I apologize for the break in service. While it was not intentional, it did happen. We will try to do better this coming year. Until the next show, feel free to take a stroll down memory lane with our archived shows.
